چکیده

One of the approaches enabling people with amputated limbs to establish some sort of interface with the real world includes the utilization of the myoelectric signal (MES) from the remaining muscles of those limbs. The MES can be used as a control input to a multifunction prosthetic device. In this control scheme, known as the myoelectric control, a pattern recognition approach is usually utilized to discriminate between the MES signals that belong to different classes of the forearm movements. Since the MES is recorded using multiple channels, the feature vector size can become very large. In order to reduce the computational cost and enhance the generalization capability of the classifier, a dimensionality reduction method is needed to identify an informative yet moderate size feature set. This paper proposes a new fuzzy version of the well known Fisher’s Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) feature projection technique. Furthermore, based on the fact that certain muscles might contribute more to the discrimination process, a novel feature weighting scheme is also presented by employing Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) for estimating the weight of each feature. The new method, called PSOFLDA, is tested on real MES datasets and compared with other techniques to prove its superiority. Keywords—Discriminant Analysis, Pattern Recognition, Signal Processing.

Real-time Myoelectric Control in a Virtual Environment to Relate Accuracy and Usability

INTRODUCTION Many clinically available, upper-extremity prosthetic limbs provide myoelectric control of a single device, such as a hand, elbow, or wrist. Most commonly, these systems yield control information from myoelectric signal (MES) amplitude [1] or rate of change of MES [2]. Such systems have been beneficial; however, prosthetic users would no doubt find enhanced functionality and usabil...

Intelligent multifunction myoelectric control of hand prostheses.

Intuitive myoelectric prosthesis control is difficult to achieve due to the absence of proprioceptive feedback, which forces the user to monitor grip pressure by visual information. Existing myoelectric hand prostheses form a single degree of freedom pincer motion that inhibits the stable prehension of a range of objects. Multi-axis hands may address this lack of functionality, but as with mult...

Recognition of finger movements using EEG signals for control of upper limb prosthesis using logistic regression

Brain computer interface decodes signals that the human brain generates and uses them to control external devices. The signals that are acquired are classified into movements on the basis of feature vector after being extracted from raw signals. This paper presents a novel method of classification of four finger movements (thumb movement, index finger movement, middle and index finger combined ...

Training protocol for a powered shoulder prosthesis.

There is a scarcity of literature on rehabilitation training protocols for upper-limb prosthesis use. Seminal textbooks and articles describe protocols for training individuals to use conventional body-powered, myoelectric, or passive prosthetic devices and were written prior to the introduction of multifunction prosthetic hands and more advanced prosthetic technologies [1–3]. Furthermore, deta...
